Because of the Dutch Independent Network Management Act, a part of the activities of energy company Eneco had to be moved to a new, separate company. Eneco was split into three core businesses: Eneco remained the energy company, Joulz became the infrastructure company (construction and maintenance of energy infrastructure) and Stedin is engaged in energy transport, especially electricity and gas).
Customers of Joulz are Stedin and Eneco, but also other parties.
The name Joulz is a transcription of ‘Joules’, the unit in which energy is measured. It was selected largely because it sounds, young, modern and powerful, making it interesting for recruiting employees.
Globrands also developed the name Stedin.
