The merger between Interpay (Holland) and Transaktionsinsitut (Germany) created the first pan-European payment service provider and also one of the largest service providers in Europe. The new name is used by the holding and, in due course, will also be used for all operating companies.
The new name had to satisfy the following criteria: usable throughout Europe, preferably in English or neutral language. The trademark must also be protected across the whole of Europe and domain names must be available for .com, .eu, .nl and .de suffixes.
The following attributes were important: the financial market, positive associations, partnership, custom made products, operational excellence and the ability to offer a broad portfolio.
Equens is a name that communicates the broad experience, expertise and capacities gathered by two of the largest payment processors in Europe. Equens conveys that the focus of the organisation lies with quality and customer satisfaction. The name refers to the quality, whilst the echo of ‘sequence’ in the name reflects continuity and associates with the flows of the transactions.
